On the GT's there was a problem with the piston rings and cylinders, pistons going oval or something causing excessive oil consumption. i'm sure this was pre 2002 thou. across the range on the 1ZZ engines. Like Burrcold suggested get a 03 + engine then just swap your intake manifold + TB over to make it work, Other option is to have new piston and the cylinders sleeved but is alot of work and money someimtes the cost of a 2nd hand engine be it a GT or GTS sometimes works out cheaper than a strip down and new parts. Or even if you can sell or part exchange against a GTS another option.
